Using the ODBC Client : Using the ODBC Administrator

Using the ODBC Administrator

The first step in setting up an ODBC connection is creating an ODBC data source. The ODBC Administrator is installed automatically when you install the ODBC Client on Windows. You use the ODBC Administrator to create and manage ODBC data sources.
To start the ODBC Administrator, select the icon from the DataDirect program group.
Note: For a 64-bit machine, when you install a 64-bit OpenAccess SDK 8.1.0 Client for ODBC, the shortcut for the ODBC Administrator points to the 64-bit version. When you install a 32-bit OpenAccess SDK 8.1 Client for ODBC, the shortcut for the ODBC Administrator points to the 32-bit version.
For a 32-bit machine, the shortcut for the ODBC Administrator points to the 32-bit version.
To configure a data source:
For the ODBC Client in a client/server environment, see Configuring Data Sources for the ODBC Client on Windows
For the Local ODBC Client in a Local configuration, see Configuring Data Sources for the Local ODBC Client on Windows
Note: An ODBC Administrator does not exist for UNIX; you must edit the odbc.ini file using a text editor. See Configuring ODBC Client Data Sources on Linux and UNIX for instructions on creating ODBC Client data sources for Linux and UNIX.
